Amu Darya River

Flowing from the mountains of Central Asia across the Kyzylkum desert and into the Aral sea, the Amu Darya river, like the Nile, allows for agriculture and settlement along its course. 450Km (about 300 miles) northwest of Bukhara, the large oasis of Khorezm depends on the water of the Amu Darya.
