Khiva - the Toshi Khovli palace

Completely surrounded by a wall, Khiva was the capital of an emirate in the Khorezm region in the 18th century. Many of its monuments are very well preserved, making the old town a virtual living museum. The emir had two palaces -- one inside the fortified castle within the city walls, and the other, Toshi Khovli, on the opposite side of town. The Toshi Khovli palace was decorated with blue tiles throughout. This is a view of its main courtyard.
