Micro-mosaic Einstein 2

A new revolutionary technique for Lego mosaics that I'm calling Micro-mosaics. The photo of Einstein on the shelves is actually a Lego mosaic that measures less than one green baseplate. This will be the first of a series of micro mosaics.

      Hey Arthur,

Wow, this is uber-cool. Did you do this all freehand, or did you use some sort of program to help with the design? My favorite bit is that by this technique, you can get two different looks out of a 2x1 tile (e.g. I notice there are both ends of the HP sock tile in use).

That is really ingenious--the realization that each 1x2 printed tile could actually be used as one of two different 1x1 printed tiles! Anything stopping you from using the entire 1x2 tile in some circumstances; or maybe mixing in various fractions of 2x2 printed tiles?

Did you decide not to include 1x1 tile into your palette for purist reasons? I wonder if the extra tile selection might have improved things even more.

Looks amazing, though. A very creative way to make pieces "smaller". :)

1x1 tiles won't overlap; they'd have nothing to connect to

I use software to assist me. Its a bit more complex than simply pressing a few buttons, but the software does all the grunt work.

Ah. right you are. Well, I suppose you could use them on the very bottom row, or on a zone where they'd stripe to the edge, but that's not generally very useful.

A nice step forward from Erics original tile mosaics. Excellent work

How you figure out which prints work best, I will never know, but you certainly do a great job at it!

      Hi,

I just wrote up a very short entry to cover this. Eventually I want to study your work and techniques a bit more and write them up, too, but -- the kids are pestering me. It might be awhile (weeks... months...) before I get it all done. ;-)
