Amazing what you can achieve with a few decorated tiles. Was it coincidence that the news broke after you were done with this?

Yes, the extra detail with the decorated tiles is fantastic. Was this done and you were just waiting for some appropriate occasion? I can't fathom that you knocked it out in just a few hours.

Great idea to pay respects. I think it's a render ( everything looks pixel perfect even in high-resolution, no shade at all ... )

Good point, sneaky Arthur is sneaky :)

counted a bit and extrapolated ( + considered the resolution ratio of the picture ). This strongly leads me to believe that if this were to be built for real it would take 35 large base plates ( 336 x 240 studs ). Simply put, this mosaic would require a staggering 40.320 decorated 1x2 tiles...

It's still an impressive image no doubt.

That was fast. And very appropriate indeed.

oh I now see the discussion above me.

Besides one decorated tile mosaic by Harshbarger in 2003, I'm the only one whose produced these types of mosaics: Einstein, Yoda, Hendrix, Lennon, Darth Maul, Snoppy, Girl with a Pearl Earring, etc... I've got quite the collection.

I am still a fan :-) also like those transparent 1x1 round plate mosaics very much, the Sorcerer's Apprentice from Fantasia is my favorite
