Kev

Not exactly pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone with this one, but here it is all the same: Kev lights up during one of our evening walks in Glasgow's West End.

Evening walks... I should do more of those - delineate from the hassles during the day and the hassles during the evening - well that's the way it is for the moment.

Perfect lighting, and such brilliant colour!

    8. Nisroch (50 months ago | reply)

Wow... I really like the color spot on the background.
And the light on his hand.

      Just bought a 50mm 1.8 I can't wait to test it.

That bokeh is just sick! His smoking sure makes for some great photos! You could probably get sponsorship from the tobacco industry at this point. =D

You're right that it's not anything vastly outside your boundaries - in fact, if I were to define a 'typical' Tommy Ga-Ken Wan shot, this'd be it - subject in right-hand third of the frame, massive bokeh, interesting light source. And yet, there is something fresh about it. It reminds me of a character in some crazy noir film, who's just killed someone and is taking a break on a rooftop before leaping out into the night.

I'd also like to see something you've taken straight off-camera. I'm always curious to see how much work you do on the colours - they're always so dramatic, without being over-saturated.

I'm not a shrink, but I think you've got something, either with Kev or with lightening fags, that has to be clarified....
      Anyway, wonderful shot, as always!

it may be nothing new to you - but having just found your stream (via a favourite on a friend's faves page), i'm quite knocked out. your photographs are so atmospheric, and cinematic.... i'm sure people have said that before! nevertheless, it's true. i find myself thinking about wong kar-wai and claire denis, which is no bad thing on a friday night.....

Can I ask what settings you use with your camera to get these kinds of results?

Well I'm bokeh-addict, but this has got something more. I love the way the image is divided into 3 horizontal bands, Black, Clolur, Black.

      very well done

once again great bokeh, and fantastic lighting on the face!

    33. [Andreas] (50 months ago | reply)

I am fascinated by the contrast of the film noir quality of the portrait (the fire illuminates the face) and the colourful lights in the background which one wouldn't associate with film noir.
