~Luna Moth~

Luna Moths, also called Moon Moths, are some of the largest moths in North America. The males have larger, bushier antennae than the female luna moths. They do not eat, they don't have a mouth and only live around a week. I read that they only fly at night. I like the lovely color of these big, beautiful moths.

Those "eyes" look so sad. Now I know why---they can't eat.
I guess they mate and die?

    7. turtlemom4bacon (12 months ago | reply)

How pretty this moth is and sad they only live a week, Rita.

Those big fluffy antennae on the males are for picking up pheromones - that's a chemical 'come hither' call put out by the females. Lunas are among my favourite moth species - great catch!!
