The Retreat

    This tiled panel was part of The Retreat pub on Ashley Road, Parkstone which has now been demolished. Leaf pattern tile is Carters No 859 in the pattern book , a popular design locally.

      When my family moved to England in 1985 The Retreat was boarded up with "Safeways Coming Soon" boards all over it. I was only 8 years old and fascinated by the old place. How fascinating to find this photo on Flickr...! (Don't suppose you have any more of the place?) Thanks for uploading.

      Hi Peter

      No it's the only one I have, it was part of a project I was doing on ceramics so I wasn't interested in the rest of the building. Later I lived just up the road from Safeways in Ashley Road from 1987 to 1999. The photo was taken in 1979.

      I have lots of photos of the retreat pub and bus station being demolished and safeways now waitrose being built , i will post some in the next week or so .
