Despite the precision of the instruction, I was taken by some of the submissions that reversed the illumination process so felt that, in the spirit of the instruction if not in the letter, that such images could sit alongside those following the instruction more closely.

distant horizon.

water as a layer to see through before
reaching vertical layers. Her position
on the left, carrying the finger, works
well to point to the shapes across the
picture without compromising them.

unfailingly the subject and yet the rest
of the scene is beautifully drawn as
well. Was the black car chosen
deliberately? If so, it serves to
dampen down the righthand side to focus
attention on the woman.

the camera.

very clever in its disturbing use of the
vertical light strip against the
shadowed people; who seem to be ghosts
from a Camus novel.

The backdrop is a good portrayal of the
'normality' of the street.

visible to complement the lit tented

via the flash to create more than a
straight portrait.
