I haven't added perle cotton yet to my
embroidery stash. When I do, how do I decide
between #12 and #8 weight? I think that I
crochet with perle cotton #10...;-)
Barncat- Yes, Alice is a favorite (note that
there is yet another Tenniel Alice in the
photo stream that I did last year or so of
Alice and a lion). The book is very bizarre
but it has some of the most wonderful
illustrations in it. I did this to remind
people that there is a wonderful book that
preceded the movies that are out . Maybe
someone will be inspired to read it by this
:) This will most likely land itself in a
frame......... :) Shawn- thanks for the compliments :) If you
have no fine details (like the hands/teeth in
this) then I suggest a heavier thread. The
finer the detail, the finer the thread- the
same holds true for floss. Perle has a nice
sheen to it. I like it for single color
images like this. I avoid it if I am doing
fill stitches- perle looks choppy as a
filler- it does not blend. It is really great
for outlining satin stitches on those art
deco and 60's flowers you liked that I had
posted :)
Nice work. The Mad Hatter is the reason I
was freaked out by Alice in Wonderland as a
child. He is totally creepy to me. : )
However, in black only this rocks!
Thank-you for all the compliments and support
for my odd stitching subjects- I just can't
pass up a good sketch! I have had the spool
of black perle for a bit, I usually use
heavier(thicker) floss/thread/perle- the
verdict is that I really did enjoy the stitch
of the #12. It is wonderful for details like
fingers!
Did you freehand this, or... how did you
transfer it? I was looking at the
illustrations in my copy wondering how I can
get it onto fabric to embroider it..
This is some freehand, some sewing on the fly
and tracing for the basic outline. I use Fons
and Porter transfer pencils. The world is my pattern and this is very good
to my pocketbook :) If you look you will see
a few other drawings I have turned into
embroideries :)

You liked Alice before it was cool, didn't you? ;) I was at the mall yesterday, and it was everywhere! This looks great, any plans for it?
