    Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks
    New Year's Eve 2011

Fantasy in the Sky is a 360 degree fireworks show displayed during special events at Walt Disney World. This is the version from December 30th and 31st, 2011. It featured 2012 New Year's elements.

On this particular night, I shot three different fireworks shows: Illuminations w/ the Peace on Earth tag, Holiday Wishes, and A Fantasy in the Sky. December 30th and 31st are veritable pyro feasts at Walt Disney World!

I don't think I have ever seen the perimeter bursts from up there. Wow, that is very cool!

      Awesome perspective, perfect execution. STUNNING!

Very cool. It's great to be enveloped by that all of that.

What a perfect location to capture the perimeter bursts- it gives a much better sense of scale than most of the photos I've seen of this. I've always wanted to go on NYE but worried about the crowds. Now you've got me thinking.

Excellent vantage point for this! I'm just surprised that you were willing to take it all in from outside the park. It definitely paid off though!

      Unique shot. Nice work!

I didn't think the fisheye would work well from so far away. Looks great though. The view is spectacular.

It would have worked even better but for an alcohol-related "photographer's error." That being that I used an aperture of f/5.6 for the finale. Now, I'd like to blame the camera for this...I had been using f/16 earlier in the show but it just wasn't working well, so I moved (or so I thought) the aperture ring to f/8 (this lens goes from f/5.6 directly to f/8--f/5.6 isn't as sharp as f/8). Apparently not. F/8 would've been PERFECT, too.

Oh well, I still got several good shots!

Dayum! I love that you can see exactly from where the perimeter bursts were fired... I'd been wondering about that for a while.

Several locations here are in addition to the normal perimeter bursts. Or so I think (at the very least the Island bursts on the far left are not in normal perimeter shows). Don Sullivan would know better, but there were a crazy amount of explosions happening, and it certainly seemed like more perimeter points were used than are used for perimeter shots.

      What a sweet vantage point.

Fantastic!! I've been waiting for this one. Now you have me wishing I'd joined you up there that night.

Most perimeter shots like you get with Holiday Wishes use 7 launch locations (not counting Castle) to get a ~180 degrees around the hub. The big Fantasy in the Sky shows (July 4th & NYE) use 11 launch locations including the mirror site on the island in the middle of Seven Seas Lagoon to get the full 360 degrees around the park. They really make a mess of transportation since the monorails and ferries, and all sort of other transportation around the park and lagoon all have to be stopped well before the show start.

But it's all worth it because it is an absolutely amazing site.

Tom, you just keep stepping your game up! I'm actually borrowing a computer at work right now SPECIFICALLY so I can see your picture bigger than iPhone 4 size! Absolutely incredible. When I heard you were in Disney for New Years, I knew that only good could come of it. I love the colors, and the trails from the launch tubes, and Space Mountain bright and white!

What a cool perspective. One day I'll have to get out to the parks for new years. Three fireworks shows in one night sounds pretty epic.

I shot a bunch from our Theme Park view room at the Poly last week, but after looking, found alot of them lacked perspective. Great job Tom.

Excellent PoV to give a sense of the huge scale of this display!

Your timing for this shot is spot on. I think I've gone back to look at this shot about 17 times today, I can't get over the epicness. I'm truly jealous of your mastery of the EV setting on our D7000. I'm thinking that is the Bricker trade secret. Great work and look forward to seeing more of your NYE trip soon.

Three shows in one night? Is that some kind of record? Brilliant shot, Tom!

My favorite view! The foreground lights are what I love in this shot and the fireworks are the added bonus.
