Planter and gazebo w 85mm f/1.4
I have been shooting with this new fast portrait lens in preparation for its launch and find the focusing to be fast and smooth and the optical performance to be outstanding and because of the Nano Crystal Coat performs extremely well in backlit situations. Great bokeh! Enjoy my first posts.

I hope this is a joke...

@Martin, why a joke?
@flash-a-holic, camera model?

Because the OOF rendering of the samples are not that good. Very nervous is some cases...
I find it very hard to believe that these are from the new AFS 85mm F/1.4

I see what you mean, looks more like the 105 2.8 micro for the sharpness and color rendering :)

So what's the thought behind not submitting in original size or revealing EXIF? Being one of the selected few who has gotten to try this one out, I would have expected more.

Shot with D3s
I don't ever reveal metadata because I work with early pre-production products from time-to-time.
I don't allow actual size because I don't want anybody downloading or using my photos without my permission.
It was shot with the new AFS 85mm f/1.4G - I never lie about the gear I use.
I'm sorry my photography is a "joke" to you - I'll try to live up to your expectations the next time I go out taking photographs.

Either it's the editing, as I can see halos running around certain high contrast areas. (possible)
Either its not the AFS 85mm f/1.4 (possible)
Either the new lens renders poor OOF areas (highly unlikely)
Anyways, since the lens has been announced, there is no need to hide the exif anymore.
Even then, EXIF data can be manipulated.

Well, flash-a-holic, what does Nikon have to say about you showcasing this kind of really not that good examples?
This has gotten pretty much attention over at dpreview for instance.

I'm tired of all the pixel peepers who whine about these trivial things and will likely not ever buy this lens anyway. If you're going to comment, make it constructive otherwise get back out there and shoot!

what an idiot.. pixel peepers look for sharpness in a photo.. what is being discussed is the out of focus areas.. you know.. the only reason to get this lens over others.. otherwise everyone could just buy the 105VR at half the price and be done with it. I for one will return my pre-ordered version if this turns out to be true..

the bokeh is extremely busy, the flower shot is even worse www.flickr.com/photos/10234786@N06/4910067677 /
Such a close up should at least provide shallow depth of field & proper distinction between forground & backround. The 85mm 3.5 DX macro does a better job here ! Not speaking of the 250$ Rokinon-samyang lens, which is a steal for the quality.

flash-o-holic: can you provide the unedited shot with f-stop setting to end this madness? I've seen this happen to perfectly good bokeh when using Nik software to increase micro-contrast and saturation.
CaliBreton (22 months ago | reply)
There's now way this is shot at 85mm f1.4.
1- I am not a bokeh fanatic, but even I agree this is terrible bokeh.
2- The background would be way way more out of focus if this was shot at 1.4.
I say this is a hoax.

It's doesn't say it's shot using 1.4 setting, it says it shot using the lens 1.4/85. This could be whatever. I'm guessing no larger than 2.8.

The bokeh here is a bit busy.. was this shot with a production model or a beta?
