That is one rad baby & toddler cargo bike
setup! Tell me about that bike, please -
custom long-john? I feel like I've seen it
elsewhere in a different configuration ...
maybe on one of your Kidical Mass Toronto
shots?
yep, you probably saw one of our photos in
the KM folder. and yes, it's a custom long
john which has been transformed several times
to accomodate our growing family (you can see
all of the different phases in my "Cargo
Bike" photo set). a local structural
engineer (who grew-up riding cargo bikes in
Denmark) made the bike for us. his name is
paul larson. when our first son was born paul rigged up a
system so that we could carry our 'lil guy in
a car seat in the cargo area (the car seat
snapped onto a "base" - just like
it would in a car). when our son outgrew the
carseat paul mounted a rear bike seat on
raised metal plate, which was bolted onto the
cargo bin. then we had to make room for two passengers,
so paul removed the aluminum bin and replaced
it w/a carbon fiber one - which has an
aluminum "base" attached to the
bottom (basically two metal pipes/rods).
again, the carseat snaps on and off the base,
and next to the carseat a toddler bike seat
is bolted on. in the spring - when we no
longer need the carseat - we'll just mount
another toddler seat next to the one that's
already there. it's a GREAT bike. i can't imagine life w/out
it. here's paul's link: www.invodane.com/feat2_cargobike.html

Great - thanks for the info/link ... sounds quite versatile, and I love that the toddler seat had it's own bell!
