Axum was the capitol of Ethiopia from 100 BC until around AD 1100. It is still the spiritual heart of the Ethiopian Orthadox Church. The most importaint church in the country is here- St. Mary's of Zion, which is believed to contain the Arc of the Covenant. The building believed to hold the Arc is seen above.
