Here's a bit of video i took of Tom Hammonds' awesome "Pikes Peak" Audi Sport Quattro at Prescott Hillclimb way back in 1991. Make sure you've got the sound turned up nice and loud :-)

Amazing video, wembley! Brings back all sorts of great memories of a brave man in wonderful car. I seem to recall that his 64 foot time at Prescott calculated out to well over 1G initial acceleration.
Love the twittering audio .... he made a bit of a mess of Orchard, though :-)

@wembley .... the ex-Mikkola car was actually Tom's first race car ever, and the Pikes Peak car was the second (and sadly last) - over 700hp was the claim for the 5-cylinder but at one time there was talk of Ingolstadt building him a twin turbo version of the A8 4.2 litre V8 for the car with over 1000hp!!!! He used to tow both to meetings on a trailer behind his dark green roadgoing quattro Sport ... that beast must have had the hardest life of any of the cars!
The old days seem a loooong time ago!

Hi Dave, thanks for the info. I can remember all three cars well, infact they were the main reason for most of my visits to Sprint and Hillclimb meetings in the late 80s. The green car must have been the only Sport Quattro ever to have a towbar fitted!

Hi, this is my fiancee's father.
He used to love the green car (the tow car) just as much as the others and had to collect it from germany in person. He used to keep it raised off the floor in his workshop!!

what memories, my son & I used to go to Shelsley a lot in the 80's (me) and 90's/200s (both of us), and Tom's Pikes Peak Quattro was just THE car to see - I know it's overused, but awesome is the way to describe both the driver and the way he drove it - just something else. And that noise.....almost as good as watching Nick Mann's Morris Minor!
