I'm pretty sure that almost everybody on Flickr has seen pictures of this staircase.
It's inside the House of the Black Madonna.
"The House of the Black Madonna is a cubist building in the "Old Town" area of Prague, Czech republic. It was designed by Josef Gočár. It is currently in use as a small museum of Cubism and is open to the public." Wikipedia
It is a really beautiful and unusual staircase. I spent some time to take several pictures and visited the museum and the café. Something I strongly recommend to do.

Ich vermute mal, dass alle schon Fotos dieser Treppe auf Flickr gesehen haben. (Sie war jetzt nicht der Hauptgrund für meine Fahrt dahin, aber zumindest nicht ganz unschuldig...).
Diese Treppe ist im Haus der Schwarzen Madonna. Das ist ein komplett im kubistischen Stil errichtetes Gebäude in der Prager Altstadt. Die Pläne stammen von Josef Gočár, der es als ein Kaufhaus plante. Heute befinden sich darin das Museum des Tschechischen Kubismus und ein Café. Nachdem ich diverse Fotos gemacht habe, habe ich sowohl das Museum als auch das Café besucht und kann das nur empfehlen.

I spent about an our driving around with the metro, hopping off at a station, taking pictures, hopping on again, hopping off the next station and so on. Time flies, when you're having fun :o)

Ich bin ungefähr eine Stunde mit der U-Bahn durch die Gegend gefahren. Einsteigen, aussteigen, Fotos machen, einsteigen, eine Station später wieder raus, Fotos machen und so weiter. Die Zeit vergeht so schnell, wenn man sich amüsiert :o)

Das kann passieren wenn man nicht sehen kann, dass die Tür, die man gerade fotografiert, geöffnet wird. Den Effekt finde ich aber ganz schick.

There is a quite longish article in Wikipedia about the Cathedral so here is an excerpt.
"The present day Gothic Cathedral was founded on 21st of November, 1344, when the Prague bishopric was raised to an archbishopric. Its patrons were the chapter of cathedral (led by a Dean), the Archbishop Arnost of Pardubice, and, above all, Charles IV, King of Bohemia and a soon-to-be Holy Roman Emperor, who intended the new cathedral to be a coronation church, family crypt, treasury for the most precious relics of the kingdom, and the last resting place cum pilgrimage site of patron saint Wenceslaus. The first master builder was a Frenchman Matthias of Arras, summoned from the papal palace in Avignon. Matthias designed the overall layout of the building as, basically, an import of French Gothic: a triple-naved basilica with flying buttresses, short transept, five-bayed choir and decagon apse with ambulatory and radiating chapels. However, he lived to build only the easternmost parts of the choir: the arcades and the ambulatory. The slender verticality of Late French Gothic and clear, almost rigid respect of proportions distinguish his work today."

"Das Gebäude in seiner heutigen Form als Kathedrale im gotischen Stil wurde ab dem Jahr 1344 auf Anweisung Karls IV. erbaut, als auch Prag zum Erzbistum erhoben wurde, doch reicht die Geschichte des Baus bis in das 10. Jahrhundert zurück. Der Bau erfolgte anstelle einer 925 unter dem Hl. Wenzel errichteten Rotunde und der unter Spytihněv II. begonnenen dreischiffigen romanischen Basilika (ab 1060). Spytihnew starb allerdings bereits 1061; der eigentliche Bauherr der neuen Kirche war sein Bruder und Nachfolger Vratislav II. Die doppelchörige Basilika war wesentlich kleiner als der heutige Bau. Teile der Rotunde mit den Gräbern der Heiligen wurden in den Neubau integriert, so etwa die Südapsis mit dem Wenzelsgrab."
