Dog Quotes Needed Today
Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's
too dark to read.
Groucho Marx
The poor dog, in life the firmest friend. The first to welcome,
foremost to defend.
Lord Byron
A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than you love
yourself.
Josh Billings
I am fond of pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs
treat us as equals.
Winston Churchill
Truly, I would not hang a dog by my will, much more a man who hath any
honesty in him.
William Shakespeare
If a dog will not come to you after having looked you in the face, you
should go home and examine your conscience.

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Jeremiah 1:1, 4-10
Psalm 71:1-2, 3-4a, 5-6ab, 15 and 17
Matthew 13:1-9
A reflection on today's Sacred Scripture:
He spoke to them at length in parables. (Matthew 13:3)
The teaching technique Jesus used was established by His Father, who gave Jesus everything. Stories or parables were the method God chose to reveal the unseen to us through His Son. This way, we identify with what's familiar to us so we can see more clearly the mysteries of Heaven. But before we can understand anything, we must do what Jesus taught those gathered around Him in today's parable of the sower: listen. "Whoever has ears ought to hear." (Matthew 13:9)
In this story, Jesus shows a relationship between us and soil. Like soil, we become richer by what God reveals to us. The more we listen, the more He reveals—the richer we become, and we begin to produce fruit that brings joy to both God and us. But if we only listen for awhile and then allow ourselves to be drawn in by earthly pleasures, we'll resemble the first three kinds of soil in the parable, and wither for lack of roots. If we don't listen at all and let sin take over like weeds, God's Truth gets choked out altogether and we stop growing. Jesus is teaching us how to develop and deepen our relationship with Him so we won't be like the shallow or unfertile soil where nothing ever grows.
Certainly, our objective is devotion to God and love of neighbor. Jesus only uses images from our everyday life such as seed and soil to help us understand and become rich in the ways of Heaven, not in the ways of this world. When we cultivate our own will, Jesus, the Master Sower will take care of tending our minds and hearts.

Saint Birgitta, also known as Santa Brigida or St. Bridgid of Sweden and Birgitta of Vadstena, born Birgitta Birgersdottir (1303 – 23 July 1373), was a mystic and saint, and founder of the Bridgettine Order, after over twenty years of married life before her husband died. Uniquely among saints of the second millennium, she was also the mother of a saint - Saint Catherine of Vadstena of Sweden.
Life
The most celebrated saint of Sweden was the daughter of Birger Persson of the family of Finsta, governor and lawspeaker of Uppland, and one of the richest landowners of the country, and his wife, a member of the so-called Lawspeaker branch of the Folkunga family. Through her mother, young Birgitta was a relation of the Swedish kings of her lifetime.
In 1316, she was married to Ulf Gudmarson of the family of Ulvåsa, lord of Närke, to whom she bore eight children, one of whom was afterwards honoured as St. Catherine of Sweden. Birgitta’s saintly and charitable life soon made her known far and wide; she gained, too, great religious influence over her husband, with whom (1341–1343) she went on pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.
In 1344, shortly after their return, Ulf died in the Cistercian monastery of Alvastra in Östergötland, and Birgitta now devoted herself wholly to religion.
It was about this time that she founded the Order of St. Saviour, or the Bridgettines, of which the principal house at Vadstena, was richly endowed by King Magnus Eriksson of Sweden and his queen.
About 1350, she went to Rome, partly to obtain from the pope the authorization of the new order, and partly in pursuance of her self-imposed mission to elevate the moral tone of the age. It was not until 1370 that Pope Urban V confirmed the rule of her order, but meanwhile Birgitta had made herself universally beloved in Rome by her kindness and good works. Save for occasional pilgrimages, including one to Jerusalem in 1373, she remained in Rome until her death on 23 July 1373. She was originally buried at San Lorenzo in Panisperna before being moved to Sweden. She was canonized in 1391 by Pope Boniface IX, and confirmed by the Council of Constance in 1415.
Visions
As a child, she had already believed herself to have visions; these now became more frequent, and her records of these Revelationes coelestes ("Celestial revelations") which were translated into Latin by Matthias, canon of Linköping, and by her confessor, Peter, prior of Alvastra, obtained a great vogue during the Middle Ages. Her visions of the Nativity of Jesus had a great influence on depictions of the Nativity of Jesus in art. Shortly before her death, she described a vision which included the infant Jesus as lying on the ground, and emitting light himself, and describes the Virgin as blond-haired; many depictions followed this and reduced other light sources in the scene to emphasize this effect, and the Nativity remained very commonly treated with chiaroscuro through to the Baroque. Other details often seen such as a single candle "attached to the wall", and the presence of God the Father above, also come from Bridget's vision:
...the virgin knelt down with great veneration in an attitude of prayer, and her back was turned to the manger.... And while she was standing thus in prayer, I saw the child in her womb move and suddenly in a moment she gave birth to her son, from whom radiated such an ineffable light and splendour, that the sun was not comparable to it, nor did the candle that St. Joseph had put there, give any light at all, the divine light totally annihilating the material light of the candle.... I saw the glorious infant lying on the ground naked and shining. His body was pure from any kind of soil and impurity. Then I heard also the singing of the angels, which was of miraculous sweetness and great beauty...[1]
After this the Virgin kneels to pray to her child, to be joined by St Joseph, and this (technically known as the Adoration of the Child) becomes one of the commonest depictions in the fifteenth century, largely replacing the reclining Virgin in the West. Versions of this depiction occur as early as 1300, well before Bridget's vision, and have a Franciscan origin, by which she must have been influenced.[2]
Her visions of purgatory were also well known.[3]
In memory
In 1651, the Brigitta Chapel was erected in Vienna, and in 1900 the new district Brigittenau was founded.
In 1999, Pope John Paul II chose Birgitta as a patron saint of Europe. Her feast is celebrated on 23 July, the day of her death. It was not in the Tridentine Calendar, but it was inserted in the Roman Catholic calendar of saints in 1623 for celebration on 7 October. Five years later, her feast was moved to 8 October, where it remained until 1969.[4]

Like Woodrow Wilson's quote best ...
I don't know, there's that statement about the wheat and chaff growing together also that the angels seperate. And we take this to mean saints and sinners ...but Paul, a great Apostle, wrote he did the thing he hates to do and did not do what he wanted to do ....so what if it means instead like what he wrote in 1st Cor 13? "Dimly we see now as if in a mirror, but then we shall see just as we are seen...." When we are part of the body of Christ, God the Father sees His Son in us. It's like I guess when you look at your children, and you see the baby or toddler they used to be when they are teenagers ...but you also see their potential. And you see the good in them sometimes and your heart swells with love and pride. And I think that is how we're seen, not just as the sinful and rebellious people that we certainly are, most of us, but as the people we will be or whatever really it is we shall be .......in eternity ......
Because yeah except perhaps for the great saints (and yet if Paul wrote that ......? - how could any of us do better?) we all have chaff. I most certainly do. Yet I know I produce some good fruit ....
And I know it says that good and bad fruit don't grow on same tree or vine but then I think also of that song "One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch" {Ok I was huge Osmond fan as little girl, guilty!} ......
I think Christians can produce an orchard and much of it good ...
But if we say we are without sin, as John the Beloved wrote, we are liars. And certainly as Catholics if this were true there would be no need to go to confession then either!
Also what's weird is John the Baptist's parents, they were found righteous, but it is also written there is none righteous, no not one we all like sheep have gone astray ....and when that angel appeared to the priest in the temple, uh he disbelieved and he was struck dumb. But then of course he did agree to name the child John ......
So in the end I think it's that faith throughout the sin, the repentance, and the "ok God I'll do it Your way!" when we finally learn that our way didn't work, that makes us righteous.
Those are my thoughts anyway.
