Jim Beam Black

Jim Beam Black

Tasted 3/11/12.

It's nice when you can try drinks with $1 nips... another example right here. This is Jim Beam Black, a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey aged 8 years.

I am finding in my whiskey tasting experiment that I like scotch more than bourbon. Bourbon tends to be stronger in flavor to me: more spice and more burn in the throat.

In sampling the Jim Beam Black, I get the spiciness and the sweetness, probably the corn flavoring. The alcohol goes down smooth, with subtle warmth in my throat, but nothing overwhelming.

Not bad. I think I like the flavor of Bulleit more, but I do think that bourbon is not my liquor preference. Probably better used in mixed drinks for me.

Evan Williams Honey Reserve

Evan Williams Honey Reserve

Tasted 3/10/12.

After sampling the Bushmill Irish Honey, a friend recommend a few other honey-flavored whiskey brands to try.

The Evan Williams Honey Reserve is a bourbon-inspired honey liquor at 70 proof.

It is very smooth to drink and has the taste of honey and citrus. The liqueur is very sweet, so drinking it neat is pretty strong in flavor. I find that the best way to drink this is over ice.

The following day, I mixed the Evan Williams Honey Reserve with some diet ginger ale and found that really nice. Might need to try iced tea next....

Best thing - this bottle is only $14! So it's a great way to have a sweet sipping drink that won't break the bank.
