  • Unfortunately the black technic axle gets lost in the background but the line roughly matches up with the angle of the bley cone above. I would've loved to shoot this on a yellow background but the rocket was too tall.

Заправка космического корабля (Refuelling spaceship)

"Космос холоден, но русские женщины холоднее."
("Space is cold but Russian women are colder".)

Most cosmonauts in the Battle for the Moon were women, leaving the men to pilot their mechs against the American ground forces. The "Ladies of the Stars" quickly earned a reputation amongst their enemy for their bravery and savagery in battle.

Impossible to see but the pilot is a rather lovely female, I might get some closer shots of the truck and the pilot later. Some things bug me about the rocket but I'm leaving this one be for now. Got a few more of those lovely Death Star spheres and about 40 different ideas for stuff to build with them. Maybe a giant space laser next...I was going to start on some new Lego graffiti but this retro stuff keeps drawing me back.

The rocket may be awesome, but it pales in comparison to the title.

The rocket ship looks so functional. With the lunar-lander-style struts and the pressure tank for fuel, I bet this would actually work.

This feel so retro sci-fi, which is an absolute good thing ! And besides the fact that you made a particularly smart use of the new "planet" pieces my favourite thing is the pilot, I totally fall for female pilots :D
Well, seriously, I always think that women aren't depicted as much as they should/could be in LEGO. Guess that makes me a feminist. ^^
Anyway, keep up the good work !

I'm going mad trying to write something clever, but it the kind of pic you just have to look a long moment, staring at it with a big smile on the face, thinking "OMG OMG he did it again !"

Absolutely brilliant... 'Battle for the moon' is actually a collection of your most awesome stuff anyway! Any chance it was inspired by this (awesome) thing? www.flickr.com/photos/olog/6554768783/in/fave s-47881312@N04/

    Thanks heaps guys!
Yep, especially the visual composition of having the rocket in the middle and two object either side. I saw it but strangely didn't leave a coment.
Me, the retro guy? No way, I'm still trying to catch up to the ace stuff Gambort and Soren posted back in '07 and '08 :)

Excellent compostion Shannon, your retro style work is really impressive and I personally really like this one. Glad you showed the other picture too - it shows the strut work better, but this one has more drama.

    Great scene!!
But there are some errors in Russian spelling
Refuelling spaceship - Заправка космического корабля
Space is cold but Russian women are colder - Космос холоден, но русские женщины холоднее :)

  37. Shannon Ocean (4 months ago | reply)

Thank you for the correction, i was relying on a google translation which are notorious for bad mistakes. Spasiba!
