Lego set #9490 Alternate 4: Probe droid prototype

    It's a little known fact that the Imperial probe droid, famed for discovering the Rebel's secret base on Hoth, was first tested on Tatooine some years earlier. This early design was large and clumsy unlike the later black version but the concept worked well. Of note was the lid which would shut to protect the delicate sensors from the harsh Tatooine sand.

    Made with only the pieces from this set

      Your alts are seriously cool. I love the humorous spirit.
      They should be printed on the backside of the official boxes - just as it was when creativity was the focus rather than collectability. Somewhen in the eighties... when Han Solo shot first.

      in the 90's on the backs of town aka. city sets there were these fun hilarious alternates on the backsides of the boxes but these days that thing is gone and we ve got only Creator.

      It reminds me of the little coffee-pot robot from the kids fillum 'Robots'.

      Great alternate! Gonna be making that probe droid noise all day, now.

      I've been doing that noise too! Any idea how to type it? "Nongyrabendu, nongyrabent"...????

      Dunno, but as I recall it's somewhere between a 70s trim-phone, a washing machine draining away the water, and a munchkin with a sore throat.

      I love all your alternate builds, they really sold the useful parts of the set well. I too yearn for the days when alternate builds graced the back of sets... ;_;
