The Majestic Washing Machine

    Rockett's Landing
State Route 5 and Orleans, Richmond, VA

This end of the building is probably in line for pointing too, so I thought I'd get another shot of The Majestic Washing Machine. Now, that's a washing machine I'd be interested in seeing.

Update: In the earlier shot of this sign I facetiously asked if they made the washing machines out of cedar. Hah! According to the Washing Machine Database, they did. Check out two Richmond Cedar Works models: the Lightning and the Majestic Rotary Washer. Click on the thumbnail photos for a Quicktime video of the machines in action.

wow, way to do your homework. Who knew you could make a washing machine out of wood?

Yeah, I was surprised. I was aware of the tub-like washing machines they had way back in the early twentieth century, but it never occurred to me that the sign could be that old.

You can't even tell it was ever there now.

Too bad. I'll miss it. I always liked seeing it whenever I drove into town on the 5. Majestic!
