Las Mascaras de la Alborada 2011 #13

Danzante en el desfile de la Alborada, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico

La Alborada is an annual festival honoring San Miguel Arcangel, patron saint of San Miguel de Allende. After a week-long celebration, a parade consisting of many various indigenous tribes from around the state of Guanajuato and other parts of Mexico winds its way through the streets of the town, ending at the central plaza in front of the main church, La Parroquia. Normally held on the first Sunday of October, the parade attracts visitors from around Mexico and the world who enjoy the rhythmic music and the colorful masks and costumes worn by the dancers young and old. La Alborada is my favorite festival of the year in San Miguel de Allende other than Semana Santa, the week ending with Easter.
