I have enjoyed looking at the your photos.
I worked in this mill from 1978 until 1984
Mostly in Old Open Hearth #5 at the Homestead Works.
This place was known as the closest place to HELL topside.
If you were walking in the boiler house and they dumped slag from the furnace's you had to stop moving !!
You could not see your hand in front of your face for more then 2 ft.
The air was so hot it was hard to wear a respirator.
We ran 24 / 7 3 shifts rotating around the clock.
You started on 8 AM to 4 pm went to 4-12 next week ect.
Times have changed and thank god Im in Arizona now.
