For your edification, here is the original and process:
1. huge crop
2. zoom in
3. clone out green double exposure
4. change hue to blue
4 enhance contrast to bring out branches
5. paint on collected snow on branches'
6. add falling snow with Ulead particle plugin
7. add star in upper right with lens flare filter

A fantastic piece of work, very christmassy in a spooky sort of way.
In answer to your question, that particular was taken using a sigma 18-200 lens. I moved away from manual mode and tried using portrait mode for the last two shots and i am very pleased with the results.
