The Great White Bear |
We spent a day in Winnipeg and
toured through a waterfowl area. We
spent a full five days in Churchill and
the local area, and saw about 40
different bears over the four days. The
bears were huge and awesome, even while
alternating sleeping and playing (mostly
young males sparring amongst
themselves).
The ice really hadn't begun to form as this was a very late year and the bears big bears looked gaunt.
The helicopters and tundra buggies made travel easy and allowed us to see how difficult it would be to not have either vehicles. They also helped us find moose, red fox, willow ptramigan, snowy owls, and a number of passerine birds. Fun to watch them on the frozen ice.
What a great trip.
