    Thanks all.

I'd like to see more people do this sort of thing. Retro-future town is a great untapped resource.

Huh I dunno, it's a little choppy. I feel bad saying that though as I have no ideas or advice to improve it :>

  5. gambort 28 months ago | reply

'Choppy' isn't really descriptive. It looks like a chopper motorbike? Or like a helicopter? It's so sharp it can chop wood?

  6. Lord Pappadhum 28 months ago | reply

    ^ I hate it when you're so choppy... ^__^

  7. Shadow Viking 28 months ago | reply

Chops my eyes up. There was a better word I almost had but it eludes me. Still just on the tip of my tongue. What I mean is, it's... well. Choppy. Jagged. Pixelated. Jumpy. Staggered. Rough.
Which often looks fine but here I'm not liking it. But that's just me, feel free to disregard.

I think Pete's trying to say that it doesn't flow very well. The curves and lines don't always match up, causing sort of a "jump" in the flow of the vehicle.

At least, that's what I think he's trying to say.

Indeed it definitely deserves more attention.

added to my "to do" - providing you welcome below-average builders :-)

Gotcha. I think the somewhat hideous rear wheel casing is mostly to blame for that. I've not got an idea how to fix it but not the part I need to do it. If you cover that bit up the rest is about as round as LEGO gets.

    Do it!

  12. Shadow Viking 28 months ago | reply

Yeah, that doesn't help. There are also some spots where different angles and directions meet up on the roof but I think they'd blend in better if the rear wheel well was smoother.

  13. gambort 28 months ago | reply

^ Actually covering the studs on the roof might be a bad idea too. I considered doing it both ways. At the end of the day you can't build more round than the bricks will allow, but you can trick the eyes into forgetting that.

  14. Shadow Viking 28 months ago | reply

I have to say I prefer studs over awkward tiles. Actually I think studs can help make a staggered "curve" look round- lowell spheres being a good example, as tiled ones never look as good to me.

  15. gambort 28 months ago | reply

Oh absolutely. I rarely do tile transitioning studs so I'm not exactly sure why I decided it was a good idea here.

Awesome little van, very original and fun. :)

I like it the way it is. The rear wheel section doesn´t bother me really.
And a general remark: Building Lego on a high level always equals tricking the eyes. And for me, it also includes the necessity of looking at a model as the whole thing - not just at the details. If everything is great, even better. If there is a thing or two that don´t match the excellent rest - okay!

I think it´s about recognizing the builder´s intention as well as the final "product" when it comes to Lego...

    Best regards, Steffen

I agree somewhat with your general remark but... in this case, for example, the rear wheel space breaks up the smooth line of the bottom which pulls the eyes to any other breaks in the lines. I shatter my own illusion through carelessness. The break on the roof is simply a matter of choice. I've seen and liked both stud and tile transitioning but personally favour the former in most cases.

In this case I simply didn't have the time to fix it properly but I definitely can see what Auric means and would have improved things if I'd had a chance.

Indeed. ALthough I do love me some dressage.

Well... looks like it's time to go reporting that person to Yahoo.
