I don't have an ACL in my right knee either - apparently you don't really have to have one...
only if you want to kneel... or get up... or... or... - Say~Cheese
Yes, I think you need chocolate! I've been through the acl thing - not a fun time. I'm supposedly too young for a knee replacement - but that's the next step. What fun! Who knew what we do to ourselves today will be back to bite us in the future?
ROTFL!!! Sorry, Indee, Peggy is not athletic, not now anyway. I have to get after her just to walk!!! She actually has lots of pain in her knee and got injections in knee and hip before I got there to visit her just so we would be able to walk anywhere together.
So, two years already - that flew by. For me it seems like just yesterday. I'm sure not for you, but time is a warped thing - it drags, yet it flies.
Although these shots tell a sad story, what I like is that so many of them have cat's in them! Cat's know if your hurting and they do keep an eye out for you. I broke my fibia about 5 years ago and was in plaster for 10 weeks! (both our cats were with us then) they were a god send - I'd feel sorry for myself after it took 45 minutes to make a cup of tea, but the cats would then come and just be close and it made the world of difference!
Happy Anniversary indee... even if you aren't walking quite right - you are still walking.
do ya have to have an ACL, I don't. and won't need one when my knee is replaced.
cracks me up - you taking photos the whole while, with the parameds, the ambulance ride...
yes it sucks not walking right - messes with other joints too. after my ankle / knee scope job, had an electric wheelie chair. wheeeee - what fun doing donuts turns in the middle of the holla road. friends made a sign for the back WARNING, Driver Is On Drugs. *just the ones the doc gave me I just came across that sign the other day.
SS: seems like yesterday for me too. I feel like i'm still re-habbing it. i had to double check the dates on the photos to make sure it wasn't last year. What a journey!!! SGC: YES, cats are the best and most attentive nurses. S~C: No, no ACL is necessary, but the knee is unstable and will get looser with time (i was told). I would wear a brace for hiking if i were you, to keep from stretching out the remaining connective tissue if the knee "gives". Peggy: I will NOT get a knee replacement. I don't think i could go through anything like this again. I am at the gym 5-6 days a week trying to keep the muscles supporting the knee area strong. the surgery made me extremely ill and i hope to God i don't have to do it again.
Beefus, I hope you are doing well. We're NOT getting knee replacements, right? Ash Strong soul? well i appreciate that, but mostly i'm just trying to keep up with all the responsibilities i have taken on in my life. I need a knee. Oh, and all the activities i love. i can't just give up. i gotta take care of Meatie, Izzy, Angelinajolie, Moses, and WillowBee and my beautiful garden.
At first, I thought you might get back full 100% use of you leg, but after reading that the injury included your knee, I'm not so sure. Knees are very fragile. Breaking a bone is easier to restore (i'm proof of that) with than tearing stuff in the knee.
M-A: it was totally a knee injury. leg is good. 100% tear ACL, 100% tear MCL, meniscus damaged. the bottom part of my leg, from the knee down went straight out to the side at a 90º angle when i "fell". omgosh it was UGLY. i think it had to be the sickest thing i have ever seen. and ohmygosh did it hurt. yeah, a bone injury would be a cleaner, less complex injury, that's for sure.
I'll Just Bet That You Can Do Anything That You Put Your Mind To! Never Say Never My Friend! Now taking the time off work, and of course, from all those much Loved tasks you assign to your self, because you Love to be near them, to hike the A.P. trail ......That would be a real problem! Heh-Heh!
well I will get a knee replacement... much better than the one I have now. it's been falling apart since 1977.
I have two, no... three different knee braces. the one from the ortho doc is the best, has metal hinged stays for stability and allows for fluid movement. If I know I'm going on more than an hour hike up the ravine I wear that - and my ankle brace, one that was designed by my oh so famous ortho surgeon.
has your knee deteriorated from a previous surgery or injury? ACL reconstruction? no i have no orthotics. Geez---i'm only 2 years out. let's see... 33 years from now i'll be dead so i won't need a knee replacement.

Knee replacement? No way!
I'd just as soon watch a "Charles in Charge" marathon while being force-fed strips of boiled tofu!

well I thought I'd be dead 'n gone by now ... but not so.
or maybe I am and just don't know it - heh.
my orthotics are custom made, molded form to make them.
like walking in my own foot print. helps the impact on my screwy joints and back probs.
you be careful (esp in the snow) and baby your knee indee.
