Il Succorpo di Napoli

È una testimonianza del Rinascimento a Napoli. Infatti, fu eretta a
partire dal 1497 per volontà del cardinale Oliviero Carafa, che,
proprio in quell'anno, riportò in città le reliquie di San Gennaro. I
lavori furono terminati nel 1506.
La cappella fu eretta su un disegno di incerta attribuzione: alcuni ne
attestano l'ideazione al celebre architetto Bramante, altri invece
indicano lo scultore lombardo Tommaso Malvito.
L'ambiente è rettangolare con una superficie totale di 108 metri
quadri (12 x 9) metri. L'interno è rivestito in marmi ed è diviso in
tre navate da colonne; su di esse poggia il soffitto, diviso in
diciotto cassettoni, ciascuno con un santo e quattro teste di
cherubini; le sculture sono del medesimo Malvito.
All'ingresso sono poste alcune porte bronzee del XVI secolo, con
stemmi e emblemi dei Carafa; nella navata centrale Oliviero Carafa
orante attribuibile a Giovanni Tommaso Malvito, figlio del suddetto
Tommaso; sotto l'altare c'era l'urna con il corpo di San Gennaro; nel
fondo si apre un'abside quadrata, coperta da cupola con ritratti in
due medaglioni; ai lati, l'intradosso delle finestre è ornato da
angeli con lo stemma dei Carafa.

Una bella Immagine, intensa con una scala cromatica gradevolissima . Il bilanciamento del bianco ben controllato nella quale la risoluzione e l'incisione e molto buoma.
