A nickel late, a month short

Walked by this for a month or two before it struck me that I should take out my camera and capture it. Then it sat in my camera for a couple weeks before I finally uploaded my photos to my computer (I'm really slow about that).

So even with putting it to the head of the queue on my computer (when you take 4000 photos in two months you end up with quite a queue) it's still months beyond any cultural relevancy it may have once had.

And yet, I can't help but chuckle every time I walk by.

The producers of this movie saw this sign and changed it from Snakes in a Drain to Snake this Plane!

After much focus testing and cinephile blog-scouring, it became evident to them that they should name the film Snakes on a Plane.

It was at that exact moment that Samuel Jackson signed on for the picture.

      True story!

I really wanted to believe the film was a joke I was spectacularly disappointed when it turned out to be serious.

This movie is going to be hysterical. I can't wait.

hfabulous, the way I heard it, it was called Snakes on a Plane and then they wanted to change it to something like Flight 100, except Samuel L. Jackson said he would only do it if the original title remained since it was so great.

p.s. there is also a snakes on a plane group here on flickr, you should add this to it :)

no joke: today out my window at work there was a small plane flying by with one of those ad banners, and it was an ad for this movie. i wondered if there were also snakes on THAT plane

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the lovely comments!

Just to clear up any confusion, here's the REAL TRUE AUTHENTIC Snakes On A Plane story:

Once upon a time, long long ago (almost 8 years, my sources tell me) in the kingdom of Hollywood there lived a man named Stan. Stan wasn't the brightest light on the hillside, but he had a nice low profile job as a third-string hack director and managed to eek out a comfortable Hollywood existence. Stan had a lifelong dream to one day be a famous script writer, although so far his moonlighting had left him with nary an untrashed sheet of paper.

Finally one fateful evening inspiration struck him dead in the face, in the form of a 6 foot water moccasin lunging out of his sink. Fortunately for old Stan a neighbor heard him scream and called the paramedics. The poor snake didn't fare so well, scurrying out Stan's apartment window and onto the freeway where it was immediately flattened by a passing 18-wheeler.

During his convalescence Stan wrote furiously, and when he was released from the hospital it was with the aforementioned Snakes in a Drain!!! manuscript in hand. Through a series of typical Hollywood mechanizations the script passed from hand to hand until finally, over lunch at a popular see-and-be-seen, a loudmouthed producer was regaling his guests with tales of this uproariously preposterous screenplay. Unbeknownst to said producer Mr. S. L. Jackson was sitting directly behind him, and upon (mis)hearing the title he turned around and famously shouted "%&$#&@ #$%*@^& Snakes on a %&$#@% #%@&$!% Plane??? That's the best idea I've ever heard!!!"

      And the rest is history.

That's a much better yarn than the one I spun. Indeed!
...and while I know it's no contest and that we're really just basking in the glow of another wild Internet meme on the verge of cult explosion, it's been fun to play along!
