More than 100 custom skateboards from the hands of more than 65
artists from around the world, including writers, street artists,
illustrators,
graphic designers and tattoo artists from all over the planet.
SK8 LIKE CANVAS is back in Rome. After last year's success,
this collective exhibition, which sees skateboards turned into works
of art, is
making its debut in a gallery space for the second edition. More than
sixty-five artists from around the world - selected
by Mr. Klevra - will show hundreds of custom skateboards: not ones
created by graphic
designers of a commercial series, but true works of art hand painted
for unique pieces.
From Europe to Japan, the United States to Argentina, passing through
Israel and Brazil, the artists give life to a melting pot of stories
and symbols through
different means owning to their individual backgrounds (from writing
to
graphic design, illustration to tattoo art, from street art to neopop)
but remain
united under the common denominator of their passion for the arts,
skateboarding and its subculture.
The project began in 2008 on the pages of the social network Flickr,
which
saw the collection of more than 700 images of custom skateboards
from every corner of the planet. From this group, sixty-plus artists
were invited to submit
original works that will travel Italy for expos and events held under
the name
"SK8 LIKE CANVAS" and that will open 2011 with an exclusive
exhibition at the Gallery Club Ex Rome Monti in Rome. During the
opening night scheduled for Saturday, January 22, 2011, a
selection of artists will perform in a collective performance of
live painting, customizing a few skateboards
to be added to the works already selected and displayed during the
exhibit.
In addition, there will be screenings of skateboarding video, a DJ
set,
and toast.

Più di 100 tavole da skateboard personalizzate a mano da più di 65
artisti da tutto il mondo tra writer, street artist, illustratori,
grafici e tatuatori da ogni angolo del pianeta.
Torna a Roma SK8 LIKE CANVAS. Dopo il successo della scorsa stagione,
la mostra collettiva in cui le tavole da skateboard diventano vere e
proprie opere d'arte sbarca in galleria con la sua seconda tappa. Più
di sessantacinque artisti provenienti da tutto il mondo - selezionati
personalmente da Mr. Klevra – presentano un centinaio di tavole da
skateboard personalizzate: non semplici grafiche riprodotte in serie e
destinate alla commercializzazione, ma vere opere d’arte dipinte a
mano in esemplari unici.
Dall'Europa al Giappone, dagli Stati Uniti all’Argentina, passando per
Israele e Brasile, gli artisti danno vita a una miscellanea di storie
e di segni, diversi per linguaggio e background (dal writing alla
grafica, dall’illustrazione al tatto, dalla street art al neopop) ma
riuniti sotto il comune denominatore della passione per l'arte, lo
skateboard e le sue sottoculture.
Un progetto, nato nel 2008 sulle pagine del social network Flickr, che
ha visto la raccolta di oltre 700 immagini di tavole da skateboard
personalizzate in ogni angolo del pianeta: da questa comunità sono
stati selezionati i sessanta e più artisti invitati a presentare le
opere originali che gireranno l’Italia in expo ed eventi collettivi
firmati “SK8 LIKE CANVAS” e che apriranno il 2011 con una esclusiva
esposizione presso la Galleria Ex Roma Club Monti di Roma. Durante la
serata di inaugurazione, prevista per sabato 22 gennaio 2011, una
selezione di artisti si esibiranno in una performance collettiva di
live painting, personalizzando dal vivo alcune tavole da skateboard
che andranno ad aggiungersi alle opere già selezionate ed esposte nel
corso della collettiva. Inoltre proiezioni video di skateboarding, dj
set e brindisi di apertura.
