295/365: Cloistered

Another day wandering round colleges thrown open as part of Oxford Open Doors. These are the cloisters at New College, which was founded in 1379. Ooh, we got history aplenty around these parts, yessirree.

I'm not quite sure about this one, since in order to get the light about right, the ceiling, which is incredibly dark wood, vanishes altogether. Kinda moody though. Hmm. What think?

Also for MSH's bella detesta matribus, since that's a war memorial and I have a million MSH categories to go.

This is a fly-by. I'll catch up with you all later. Hope your Mondays have been fun. :)

I love the warm, golden light and wouldn't have even looked up at the ceiling if you hadn't mentioned it. It's a lovely shot and it makes me want to be there.

Having myself seen the ceiling, a nasty combination of netting and cobwebs, it's a service to the viewer that your photo obscured it.

This may be, hands down, my favorite shot of yours Sophie!!!! This has such amazing warmth and depth and detail to it. You are totally led down the hall, fast the first time. Then I let my eyes go back and go slowly down the second time and you see all sorts of wonderful things. Now I'm just gushing, but this just totally strikes me! Love it!

      ;-)

Wonderful capture, this is so similar to the cloisters at Laycock Abbey, the ones they used for the Harry Potter films.......

Now that's some serious warmth! Love the golden tones - so rich. I've shot this several times and always seem to get green reflections/haze from the trees in the middle of the quad that can be really hard to balance out....But this is just lovely!

if the new college opened in 1379 when did the old college open?

i'm teasing and this is so obviously difficult light to master - and you have.

cheers Soph, hope your week is a wonder!

Very atmospheric - beautiful golden light. I think the fact you can't see the ceiling adds to the whole atmosphere actually.
