93/365: Blackberries big as the ball of my thumb, and dumb as eyes

    ~Sylvia Plath~

    23.2.09

I'm truly a bit giddy with the amount of light we're starting to get. I feel like I'm emerging, blinking, like a mole.

Also, I have laid to one side my 24mm prime and am determined to use the fiddy for a while. There's no point having other lenses if I just stick blindly to one. Let's see how long it lasts...

I do love primes generally, though, for all the hopping about they make you do. Hurrah.

This is wonderful. I love the natural light. Awesome. I also really like the way you created B&W naturally. Really really great.

      Gorgeous light Sophie! :)
So you typically use the 24mm Prime? How is that? You must like I'm thinking...

      Thanks everyone for your comments!

I love it. Since I bought it, I hardly use anything else, except the zoom when travelling, to have range. The Sigma 24mm EX DG it is. The wide-angle makes it good for landscapes (not that I ever shoot any) and architecture, it's technically a macro and focuses in to 7 inches so you can get really close in, and it does fabulous bokeh. Did I mention that I love it? Nearly all of my 365 shots to date have used it, bar the India ones and the one (so far) lensbaby.

That's some great light, and great colour .... i also love primes ... and old ones at that, I only have 1 prime that's autofocus .... they're mostly 20-30 years old ..... (and cheap!)
Thanks for your comments, I changed my 1 for today! :-)

They were both great ... just something about the b/w. And mebbe the horizontal felt more door swingy.

Wow, I love the light falling on the berries and the shadow pattern it creates.

I don't have that kind of light yet, but I've craving it! I'll have to live vicariously through lovely photos like this one!

Also, I do love my fiddy! I get great bokeh with it. :-)

Beautiful color and wonderful softness. Simple, nicely composed. I definitely like it.

The 50s are great. Primes are fun. Favorite lenses are such a guilt though. I got the 28-135 IS and shoot with it way too much. (Partially because all of my bags pack much better when that lens is on the camera, partially because the zoom range is nice, partially because the IS is a godsend.) Basically every week I think to myself, "I should go through my other lenses and pick one to use exclusively this week." But then I chicken out. :)

Sophie, you amaze me. You light, composition, colors and tones are just beautiful. What an inspiration...

Primes rule because you have to move. It' not all twist the barrel and "oh i got closer" or "oooo, I'm all wide angley! now"
I share your giddiness about the light. The days are getting longer and winter is loosening her hold. . .and this light is fantastic!
