Rainbows in religion and mythology
Main article: Rainbows in mythology
The rainbow has a place in legend due to its beauty and the difficulty
in explaining the phenomenon before the work of Descartes in the 17th
century (although, as mentioned above, Theodoric of Freiburg had given
a satisfactory explanation in the 13th century.)
In Greek mythology, the rainbow was considered to be a path made by a messenger (Iris) between Earth and Heaven. In Chinese mythology, the rainbow was a slit in the sky sealed by Goddess Nüwa using stones of five different colours. In Hindu mythology, the rainbow is called Indradhanush, meaning the bow of Indra, the God of lightning and thunder. In Norse Mythology, a rainbow called the Bifröst Bridge connects the realms of Ásgard and Midgard, homes of the gods and humans, respectively. The Irish leprechaun's secret hiding place for his crock of gold is usually said to be at the end of the rainbow (which is impossible to reach). In the Hebrew Bible, the rainbow is a symbol of the covenant between God and man, and God's promise to Noah that He would never again flood the entire Earth. The Rainbow has even become the symbol for a modern movement within Judaism called B'nei Noah. B'nei Noah are non-Jews who continue to follow in the ways of their ancestor Noah. The Noahide movement has its roots in Jewish Tradition, specifically the Talmud.

although there are no hints in the photo, i can see different shapes of reflections of thick glass, therefore a good asumption could be a nice crystal vase. is it so?

.....................................

@Orhan, Dimitri, Alki, Amal and all of my flickr friends...beauty can indeed sneak into each of the "usual" ,"every day" things in our lives...and render them "magically miraculous".
Gabba Gabba Hey! (69 months ago | reply)
Most (if not all) things have the potential to be aesthetically pleasing (I think).
It is we who make them "usual", "everyday" and "mundane" simply not having the will to see beauty in all things or because we reserve beauty to only what we believe is exceptionally beautiful.
The great thing about photography, is that its scope is to capture an instant of our reality (not made up like a painting), such as a the refraction of light from a cd, allowing the viewer to see beauty in the "usual" the "every-day" and the "mundane".
poly_mnia (69 months ago | reply)

Polymnia, indeed I wanted to say astronomos :) ( please excuse me for writing in English. My Greek grammar and syntax, suffered a lot for not writing and reading in Greek, for so many years, but I can still understand everything I read. And writing Greek with latin letters, it is just not the same thing. Anyway.)
I really enjoyed reading all the bits from Trinh Xuan Tuan's book ( I will look out for it) but I think we have to mention the uglyness of the nature as well, or rather the man-caused uglyness caused to nature. By all means we should appreciate the nature, but with the speed we are destroying it, gradually there will be very little left to appreciate. Then we would all need to look at stars and other planets for life. Of course I am talking about our uber consumerist culture, and the damage that causes to the environment, global warming etc. Also our busy working lives, made even the very notion of time a commodity, so we have very little free time to appreciate anything really. In London you can hardly see any stars due to lights pollution, unless maybe you have a photo camera which captures the stars, when the naked eye can't see them :)
