had a chance to work with my coworkers daughter.
Megan is a senior in one of the 4 surrounding high schools..
we found the perfect look for her..
this pose made her eyes open, and she gave us this perfect expression.
she is stunning in person and as photographed..
her dad boomed the westcott softbox for me slightly out of camera view. camera right..
lighting was a single soft box 580 EXII with 1/4 cto gel
wedding and senior season is about to happen again..

This is really gorgeous!! Her eyes really pop against the green and I love all the bokeh.
Question: as a Canadian, I'm really unfamiliar with the "senior portrait". Where is it used exactly? It seems like you just finished a string of them and I'm unclear if they're for the year past or the year ahead. :-)

senior photography is a midwestern trend...
it is where the privileged students have custom photo shoots for themselves during the senior year and each student gives out wallets of them selves to their best friends.. and in turn the best friends if they had photos taken will also then give out .. so it is like trading cards of the students..
some schools here in the midwest will allow the student to have a custom photo like i just made to be put into the year book.. others will hire a contracted photography studio to do the senior class photos while the junior class and below will have the plain boring shots in black and white..
now the parents also put wallets in the invites to the graduation parties

Thanks Pham!!! I was curious because my sister-in-law in Texas just asked me if I could do my nephew's pics and it all seems so foreign to me. This completely clears it up!!! Crazy (but great for business I hope!!). :-)

basically to stay up with modern photography, you must edit your photos to stand out or stay ahead of the game. (well that is my thinking) every photo from hollywood or high level productions have some sort of edits, color cast, or tone changes, nothing anymore is straight out of the camera.
note i am not saying do crazy stuff like me, and it isn't a requirement to add texture layers at all..
"if you want to become more dynamic, and competitive in this photography market or just want to improve your hobbyist satisfaction, you must improve your post processing skills.. ( I have certainly learned the Value of having a good file in camera first, but what i have learned is: the photography market demands more and a good file is only half of the equation.. you must do some good post processing too..)
you don't have to add all the stuff i am adding, but post processing is about editing out what is distracting, skin retouch, cloning out what ever is sticking out of peoples heads, fixing a tooth, pushing in tummys, etc...
basically i am encouraging for everybody to improve their skills in post processing and show me your creative edits, your Art work, and maybe we together can help others get inspired with editing.. "
so yes.. i added the unrealistic bokeh layers..

@Hardest.. most primes below 1.8 would produce that bokeh.. but you have to have pin light or led or xmas lights to create that crazy bokeh..
