Megan ~ Twilight Railroad Senior

Some more senior action...

some thing different, some strange..

lots of times seniors asks for a rail road shot.. here is my version of one..

i shoot at night most of the time because Twilight allows you to put focus on your subject and cuts out the shadows because you can control where you want the light to be..

done with one soft box.. and manual 580 ex triggered by the cactus system for this one..

really dragged the shutter to get the ambient light in there

Look at the lines.. All the lines go towards Megan.. even the cars and the lights in the background.. so use this as an example of how to bring composition to help your subject..

580 was @ 1/32 power
i was at very high ISO..
light was camera right boomed by her sister

Exposure:0.02 sec (1/50)
Aperture:f/2.0

I'm barely a strobist newb but just curious as to why 1/32? Wouldn't you have been able to shoot with a lower iso with higher flash power?

Not that the iso is even noticeable really though, very cool.

    thanks guys..

    @Mike
    why high ISO?

i wanted to drag in as much of the back lighting as possible and i was shooting hand held.. so what that means is slow shutter speeds to make the back ground shine like it is right now.

but if i did what you said, higher flash power and lower iso? well i can do that but what will happen is the background will look dark and Megan will be lighted properly.. but the back ground will be dark and the over all feel of the shot would be like a point and shoot shot..

the trick is the finding the right settings for the shot desired..

and i don't like to use a tripod at all (though i have a decent one) but i mainly like to shoot hand held.. so my max hand held is 1/50 or 1/60

so here i had to jack my ISO up to drag in the background and turn down the flash power to better match both (back ground and subject light)

i hope you understand or get some of this info..

what you should do is practice and play around with all the settings and see what your results are.. i did just that when i just started out my strobist training...

    thanks again guys..

does F2 make the image blur? I used it before I didn't really like it when I zoom in, but if small picture, you can't really notice right

The composition really does work to draw the attention to the subject. At first its the colour then the composition.

    Superb work as usual.
