141210: Slow Down
This photo makes we want to talk about loads of things; about the long jam (and accompanying crying) we experienced today; how it was well worth it for a fab playdate with a group of my favourite bumps and babies, and how online Christmas shopping is so much easier than joining the traffic around Lakeside and Bluewater at the moment.
But instead I'll talk about road safety. A good friend recently raised the topic as part of an awareness day recently. Because of other things I didn't get to join her, and since then I've felt awful. I wanted to make sure I covered it before the end of the year at least (PADers, are any of you in the same situation?).
There was an incident on the motorway today, that caused 45-minute delays. I have no idea what it was; by the time we reached the front of the restrictions nothing was there. Perhaps it was an accident. Perhaps that accident was contributed to by speed.
How many of us speed too quickly trying to cram 25 hours into 24 at this time of year? Or, as in my case, how many of us exit from jams and speed restrictions like a bat out of hell as soon as we can, probably not being as cautious as we should be to avoid becoming the next incident?
It's worth thinking about; for those of us lucky enough to have those we love planning to be around us this Christmas, isn't it worth slowing down a bit to ensure we all get there safely?

totally agree with you about the road safety photo - I've got one in mind that I immediately thought of when I saw HH's shot, but haven't had a chance to do it yet. It might be next year now, HH, but I'm still thinking of you x

Too much traffic and not enough road, great to highlight awareness.
