Croatia - Plitvice Lakes National Park - UNESCO World Heritage Site

Plitvice Lakes National Park - Waters flowing over limestone & chalk have, over thousands of years, deposited travertine barriers, creating natural dams which in turn have created a series of beautiful lakes, caves and waterfalls.

Yet again it all comes to our expectations and my expectation of the Plitvice Lakes NP was really high. What I didnt realize was that when you come early autumn there wont be that much water making you really search for any waterfalls instead of being surrounded by them all the time. The fact that many Asian countries have found out about this place didnt help either, therefore you have to push yourself through crowds and crowds of countless bus tourists, mainly from China.... not an experience you would have dreamt of... this is one of very few "waterfalls" that I managed to find... so if you ever think about coming to this place, I'd recommend March or April when there is plenty of water that make this place so special.

This well documents the natural beauty of Croatia.
You talk about crowds. Wlcome to my world - living with 13 million other people.
In crowded environments, one must rely on tight shots.
Sad thing is that Flikr folks seem more comfortable with normal scenic shots.

Plitvice Lakes is closest to my understanding of heaven. But even in June it was very crowded, and it was impossible to set up a tripod for long exposure on the boardwalk. I've seen gorgeous foliage photos taken in October, so that may be worth trying.

I had the great pleasure of visiting here (twice) in communist Yugoslavia days. It's a place that I have never forgotten - but it didn't look this good in my shots!!
