Italy - Venice - Dusk over Grand Canal & Rialto Bridge - Ponte di Rialto
The Rialto Bridge - Ponte di Rialto - is one of the four bridges spanning the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. It is the oldest bridge across the canal. The Piazza San Marco may be more famous, but the Ponte di Rialto (Rialto Bridge) is the true heart of Venice. The current structure was built in just three years, between 1588 and 1591, as a permanent replacement for the boat bridge and three wooden bridges that had spanned the Grand Canal at various times since the 12th Century. It remained the only way to cross the Grand Canal on foot until the Accademia Bridge was built in 1854.
With city like Venice it is difficult to come up with something original, especially when it comes to such an icon like the Rialto Bridge. I have initially captured the foreground "empty" - just water in the foreground, but later I thought that those wooden poles would add bit more interest into the shot and the POV that I have not seen before. Yet again one more iconic shot in my portfolio.
