China - Beijing - Peking - 北京 - Metropolis & Capital of the People's Republic of China - The Beijing National Stadium - The Bird's Nest

The Beijing National Stadium, also known as the bird's nest was the main track and field stadium for the 2008 Summer Olympics and host to the Opening and Closing ceremonies. In 2002 Government officials engaged architects worldwide in a design competition. Pritzker Prize-winning architects Herzog & de Meuron collaborated with ArupSport and China Architecture Design & Research Group to win the competition.

Beijing surely came up with few brand new and very modern buildings for the Olympic games. I could not miss the opportunity to visit this place when I stayed there.. this is rather famous view of the stadium, but it took me a while before I found this place with reflection as I started from the other side of the stadium.

Beautiful light and technical perfection on the exposure ... I *love* how the trees and lights mimic the rise and shape of the building in the opposite direction, giving inherent balance between the two elements. Great reflection too.
