India - New Delhi - Sacred Bath at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib - Sikh Temple

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is the most prominent Sikh gurdwara, or Sikh house of worship, in Delhi, known for its association with the eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan, and the pond inside its complex, known as the "Sarovar", whose water is considered holy by Sikhs and is known as "Amrit". It was built by Sikh General, Sardar Bhagel Singh in 1783, who supervised the construction of nine Sikh shrines in Delhi in the same year, during the reign of Mughal Emperor, Shah Alam II. It is situated in the Connaught Place, New Delhi area and is instantly recognisable by its stunning golden dome and tall flagpole, Nishan Sahib.

It is always a difficult choice to decide where you want to capture blue hour in a city like Delhi. There are so many options and places to go. Original plan was to go to Lotus temple and shoot there. I have however asked if it is open before I was heading there. A local guide told me that all monuments in Delhi are closed on Monday with exception to Lotus temple which is closed on Sunday (the day I wanted to go there). I had a different place I wanted to captured later that night but decided to go there instead. It was this Gurudwara Bangla Sahib (Sikh house of worship). The fact that there is a large pool of water made it a preferred place for the shoot for me. It is very active place and lot of people come here to take a ceremonial bath. It would have been difficult to make this man stand for 5 sec, additionally he was not aware I was capturing him. This was a moment when he was not doing his quick dives to the water. At the end I kind of like the blurred effect it gives with everything else in sharp focus.

I agree that the person being slightly blurred and the rest of the image being sharp adds the right feel to this image. Great colours and composition as well make this an excellent shot.
