Russia - Grey Afternoon on Red Square in Moscow

Red Square (Russian: Кра́сная пло́щадь, Krásnaya plóshchad’) is the most famous city square in Moscow, and arguably one of the most famous in the world. The square separates the Kremlin, the former royal citadel and currently the official residence of the President of Russia, from a historic merchant quarter known as Kitay-gorod. As major streets of Moscow radiate from here in all directions, being promoted to major highways outside the city, the Red Square is often considered the central square of Moscow and of all Russia.

You might not be always lucky for great weather and light during your trip. This was a case during my last visit to Moscow. It was rather grey afternoon on Red Square and I had to come up with some different idea to make the photo work. I have thought of very low angle POV and really liked the result. Luckily for me, there was an explosion of colors in 1.5 hour later on during the sunset, however I didn’t know that at the point of time when I took this shot.

Wow, what a contrast to your previous post...that one really was an explosion of color. I do like the low POV here. And the grey skies and cobblestone is more what I envision when I think of Moscow in the winter. Love your work, Lucie.

This is the right approach how to render one of the most photographed place in all over ther world in an original way. The point of shotting (ground level) confers a different and truly appreciable taste the shot. The monuments in the foreground look like flying in the air as well as suspended. Very nice.

No snow in December? That's unusual as well. Growing up I remember the snow setting as early as beginning of November.
