Nepal - Elephants bathing in the Rapti River in Chitwan National Park

At the foot of the Himalayas, Chitwan is one of the few remaining undisturbed vestiges of the 'Terai' region, which formerly extended over the foothills of India and Nepal. It has a particularly rich flora and fauna. One of the last populations of single-horned Asiatic rhinoceros lives in the park, which is also one of the last refuges of the Bengal tiger. Royal Chitwan National Park, the oldest national park in Nepal, is situated in the subtropical inner Terai lowlands of South-Central Nepal. The park was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1984. The best way to view the Chitwan NP and its wildlife is by jeep and Elephant back, throughthe tall grasslands. There is the opportunity to ride the elephants to the river and bathe with them when they have a scrubdown.

This photo was taken in the middle of the day when the elephant bathing takes place. As you can imagine the light was very flat and therefore I decided to turn into B/W with high key treatment.

Something unusual on your stream : no colour !
It almost look like the elephants have a bath in milk !
      :-))

      Hey Lucie

Very unusual treatment, but I think it works really well. I also like the composition with the dominant f/g subject and supporting b/g subjects.

      Very creative

The painter starts with a blank canvas onto which he includes the essential details only.

A photographer starts with a full canvas, and eliminates all unnecessary details.

You certainly master the art of seeing.
