Vietnam - Evening over The Notre Dame Cathedral in Ho Chi Minh City (former Saigon)
Although Saigon is a city full of hidden treasures and probably trillion motorbikes, it is rather difficult to define what is typical skyline of the city (besides The City hall). Although I have done my research on internet I was not sure where to head for blue hour. As I was walking around city famous cathedral, I thought it might be interesting place to shoot, so I only needed the right view point. Closer look at the high buildings around revealed that there might be terrace on one of them and here is the result. Long exposure nicely captured the flow of that trillion motorbikes that is so typical for this city.
Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnamese: Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh) is the largest city in Vietnam. Under the name Prey Nokor it was the main port of Cambodia, before being annexed by the Vietnamese in the 17th century. Under the name Saigon (Vietnamese: Sài Gòn), it was the capital of the French colony of Cochinchina and later of the independent state of South Vietnam from 1954 to 1975. In 1976, Saigon merged with the surrounding province of Gia Định and was officially renamed Hồ Chí Minh City (although the name Sài Gòn is still commonly used).
The Notre Dame Cathedral is one of the fingerprints the French left in the city of Saigon. The building, that stands in the center of Saigon, was built at the end of the 19th century. Inside you can admire typical french stained glass windows. The best in Vietnam.Although most Vietnamese are Buddhists, there are a few of them that profess a different religion. Thanks to the French occupation of this land, the Catholic religion is practiced by 10% of Vietnam population. Even if you're not a Catholic, it's worth taking a look at this lovely red-bricked church that was built using bricks from Marseilles and stained glass windows from Chartres.
