Power of Explore

This photo has made it to no. 19 of interestingness on Explore on the day it was uploaded. It was appearing on the main page for couple of hours and i was lucky enough to capture it. Being in the top 20 has generated over 1.200 views, 95 favorites & over 50 comments within 48 hours without being in a single group. Strangely enough flickr still grades this shot as my 54th most interesting photo, even though it has the most views and nearly the most favorites. I’m still rather new to Flickr, joined only 08-01-08, made a “mistake” of downloading all my Yemen photos at once on 25-01 and being active since. I can understand now why Explore is such a big phenomena as it really does generate visibility and traffic. My photo stream was visited 627 times that day, compared to avg 200.

Strangely enough, I consider this photo to be more interesting than the one that made it to Explore :

      Jordan - Petra - The Treasury - El-Khazneh

Another mystery is this other photo of mine :

This man keeps appearing and disappearing from Explore within 85-95 position. Explore is one big mystery...

congrats, this was a very nice shot and well deserved its accolades!

Im sure if you wanted to you could read reems and reems about the explore algorhythms by any simple google search, but this doest take away from your achievement. well done.

Congratulations! I also have seen the same thing, that my explore front page photos weren't among the ones which flickr counts as the most interesting of my account. However, after adding them to many groups this changed and they moved up. So my suspicion is, that the interestingness algorithm used for the account and for explore are different

Explore is a bummer, i put that sometimes in my tags :-))

A machine cannot measure interestingness if you ask me!

It's nice to be in explore and being ranked high, but at the same time it means nothing. So lets show our friend beautiful pictures, they will value it in a more human way haha

Congratulations! I think it's a fantastic shot and Explore is well deserved, in fact all of your shots should be on the front page. :-)

Congratulations! I agree with Fraggle Red, very many of your pictures should be on the front page. In this case, for once I agree with the mysterious interestingness algorithm; two fantastic pictures but at least I like the single horse better than the two horse because of the overall light situation in the pictures, in particular the light on the main subject horse pulling wagon vs. horse riders. Congratulations again and I'm sure we'll see you on first page many more times.

I was also fascinated by it, the choice of showing the partially Temple gives us wish to see more. I found it fantastic. Congratulations again.

Congratulations, this picture clearly deserves to be in Explore. Mine have, so far, only made it up to about 100-something. - Thanks for your recent visit and for commenting ;-)

Now this is a perfect travel photograph! Even National Geographic would be anivous of this one. Good work.

Congrats! Don't bother trying to fathom the mysteries of Explore....you'll go crazy! :)

Explore and interestingness algorithms will give you a strong migraine if you try to understand it! I don't even try to understand the way it grades my pictures. My photo of the year picture at PP NEVER went through explore :) And if you go randomly through the explore page you'll find the most extraordinary paradoxes! There's nothing like a good serious critique from your contacts and critique groups.

almost looks like a movie setting..entering a hidden place full of gold.
by the way which place is this..the sheer walls are very close..i would feel claustrophobic walking here
