From the 3rd night of shooting this frog (+video)

    YouTube Video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuPNgK8oP9k
On the first night I used a flash, then two, remotely and near and behind the frog. I had the flashes left and right and mostly behind the frog. I experimented with different power flash and camera settings, and such.

On the third night I got to thinking about more than just iluminating the frog (from more than one direction) and decided to put one of the two flashes next to me providing 'front light' You can clearly see from the two shadows one flash was off camera right and behind the frog, the other off camera right as well but in front of the frog.

This little fella was so cooperative I managed to shoot three nights in a row as he called out. See a lighting setup shot here.

Thank you for the info! I just got a set of extension tubes that I pair up with the 70-200mm vr 2.8 and i love it! I wish I had a bigger lens though. :)

I was pretty surprised myself how much he put up with me. IDK how I did it. At first I used one flash and then when he was not bothered by me I added a second flash, on night 1. In the end I tried to shoot a video, of him, the flashes and the shooting, and I added a constant light source. He didn't like that, and it made him retreat to his little rock cave / home. From that video though, I got some good audio and I am actually working on a video of stills and audio right now!

He sure does seem to be good-natured about your attention, doesn't he? :)

My daughter asked me a year or so back what the frogs were saying to each other as they were croaking away. I told her that they were singing, "I am so handsome. Why don't you come see me? I want to be your boyfriend." LOL
