Gorilla @ DC Zoo 12/11/2005

Taken inside. I figured out how to use my Flash (sb-800) while disconnected from the camera. This guide was awesome.

    Converted to Black&White.

I didn't know how he would react when I took the shot. After the shot he stirred a bit, and I thought it best to settle for just the one photo. He was two feet from the glass tops, and I had the remote flash about 4-5 feet from him, below and to the left of this.

See also this shot I took a more recently of him.

Check out my Nature and Wildlife Photography Blog

    D70s, Tamron 18-200, sb-800 remote flash.

    Yay!

Great use of the flash, nothing blown out. The glass must have been pretty clean too. You were pretty brave to use the flash at all with this guy, I think you were wise to settle for the one excellent shot.

Nice. Since the eyes are so dominant, I wonder what it would look like if the eyes were in color with the rest of the image in B&W.

Nobody will convince me that these apes aren't human to some extent. They have feelings, are capable of thinking, remembering, curiosity... actually, I know of some homo sapiens specimens that don't measure up to the standard.
