Tiger Leaps in to the water! I'm going to really miss these guys ;(

    Follow me on FACEBOOK
The keeper put the keg in the water, and the cats paced around for a while, and then this one went in the water! One of the other cats already went in and came out by this point.

I also heard yesterday and confirmed today that these three tigers are leaving the National Zoo this month :( :( :( They're going to Denver I think, and the National Zoo is going to try to get these guys' parents to breed again in time for a spring birth.

From the National Zoo in Washington D.C. 12/04/2005.

Neat Image used to filter out some noise. Nikon D70s, Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6. I'm not sure, but I think I may have had the polarizer on. I had it on and off for a bit in this time frame, ~1pm.

Exif data removed by Neat Image: Exposure: 1/250, Aperture: f/8, Focal Length: 190mm, Flash: Flash fired, auto mode (Nikon SB-800 w/shield-diffuser), ISO Speed: 200

    I guess 1/250th wasn't fast enough! There's still a bit of blur.
    Yay!

Added to the Cream of the Crop pool as Most views as of 3/6/2006.

*updated 9/26/2006 By far one of the favorite images I've taken, thanks so much to flickr for the feedback and encouragement!

oh no! Did they say when? Are they not going to have any tigers at all? Darn, we're going to be in Olney for Christmas and my husband said we might be able to go to the zoo. :(

    14. Nikographer [Jon] (79 months ago | reply)

@Aiko Heiwa - I'm not sure when, but I'm fairly sure it is this month, the 3 brothers are leaving the DC Zoo. Once they leave, there will still be the lion and lioness, and the 2 parent Sumatran Tigers. They plan to try to breed them this winter (tigers).

Damn you! You got them in the water! I stood around for hours and only got them growling.

Gymnastics anyone? Another fabulous action shot. That's what I love about these pictures. Unlike my hard copy pictures where the Tigers are never in action except for yawning, you always get the great action shots. Very blessed indeed!

Oh well, at least the parents will still be there! I have a thing for big cats, especially tigers. :)

I really love your zoo shots.

It shows a familiar form that cats will do, yet will never freeze or pose for! Good work! I am now inspired to make a tiger sculpture!
