I just made an HDR from a few bracketed shots I took on this day... It helped the exposure a lot, particularly in the water.

Beautiful shot. My grandmother lived there for a while in the late 40s. She married my grandfather on the veranda of the lighthouse. My great uncle was the light keeper there in the late 40s..Frank Hilt

For a shot like this, a bright scenic shot, I'd suggest you make sure to bracket at least 3 shots per place/scene (ie expose at -1, 0 and +1EV)... I tend to do a few bracket sequences, from 3 to 5 or even 7 shots per sequence. I can either try an HDR from multiple shots, or I can find a single shot that works well for the shadows and highlights...
I have also checked the Maine Tag to see what's interesting and what might be near me. This guy has some great stuff from Maine as does Imapix:
