Skimmer Skimming :D
'lil bigger - Seeing these guys skim at Chincoteague was probably the highlight of my visit. They're so unique and they are most active (when I've seen them anyway) early and late in the day, so it makes for some nice light.
Taken at Chincoteague NWR, VA along the wildlife drive near the start / eagle's nest. (see geo-tag)

Super good man. I have to ask a couple of questions. I assume you were using "C" continuous focus and matrix metering? Also, some of your shots in this group exceed 400mm, are you using a teleconverter or is this a result of the smaller sensor on the D300?
Thanks and again, some of the best bird shots on flickr. Great work.

Thanks, 200-400mm with the 550mm reported mm's are with the nikon 1.4x tc. I do use AF-C, and matrix metering - but most of the time I shoot in manual exposure mode and RAW.
