Osprey!
No chicks yet, but it is getting very close to that time.
(This nest is close to where you can watch from - I've been a handful of times, and only the first time I went did the osprey fly off the nest. Subsequent times she has perked up a bit, but not flown off. When I went yesterday she was napping and only woke up when some other birds saw me coming and spoke up. The above was taken later when she was yelling to some other osprey flying by the area, her area...)

WOW! Awesome capture, Jon!
Jon, I just checked: Our Green Heron is also called a Green-backed Heron or Striated Heron. (Buttoriedes striated). Yours is a Butorides virescens. I like yours better, it's more colorful!

A wonderful shot Jon. We are leaving Maryland today to return home to Scotland. I've never got so close to ospreys as I did on the Magothy. I have added you as a contact because I must use you as a source of Maryland photos.

Great image Jon. Super close. Great expression and detail in the eyes.
I'd clone out that stick. Very distracting from what is otherwise a superb photo.

What an amazing closeup. Wonderfully sharp details. Those yellow eyes are always fascinating to see.
I have some very co-operative osprey this year too, but I can't get a good perspective on the nest. Fortunately they spend a lot of time on the branches of a dead tree near the river and let me get pretty close.
