These gas prices made me happy
which in turn made me mad. When it was over $4.00 it was painful. Seeing it begin to finally fall in price was nice, but it is still very high...
Saturday I drove a lot, around 350 miles. I went to Bombay Hook NWR in Delaware, and some other nearby spots, and then Blackwater NWR in Maryland. My Accord gets around 36 miles per gallon when I'm on the road getting somewhere. What surprised me, but makes sense, is that I got around 28 mpg because I spent a lot of the day idling and putting along when I was taking photos. I try to turn off my engine when I'm in a good spot and plan to shoot more than a single image.
So, on Saturday I spent around $50 on gas!
If it was a more normal weekend trip of around 230 miles it might have cost around $32 at $4 gas.

I was just talking about this today with my wife. Crazy when you see it under $4 you think you are getting a bargain...

Yeah, sort of nuts. I actually saw it as low as 3.78 at a couple stations but I was driving and didn't take images. For this one I was at a red light.
I've noticed for a while now that out on the Eastern Shore of MD, or in coastal Delaware, the prices for gasoline is lower than in the DC Metro and surrounding areas. I guess it makes sense, if gas is shipped in via tanker, and doesn't have to be transported as much on land, it will cost less...

I'm just glad it's starting to come down some. Do you think we'll ever see gas at $3.50 or less again? I don't. I'm just glad to see it under $4.00.
BTW, you're getting great mileage!

I noticed it's been falling too Jon.
The big story is that diesel price, and in some areas it's even higher. That has a lot more to do with the cost of living for many people than gas prices ever will. Every finished good we use must be shipped by that $5 diesel in a truck that gets about 5mpg. At $1/mile in fuel alone moving goods is getting to be an expensive proposition! It affects retail prices of everything we purchase.

I've still been able to go all the places I want, but I may have skipped a trip of two over the course of this year.
If I were getting 15 or 20 miles per gallon it would be another story I'm sure. I opted for the 4 cylinder Accord, which still has a lot of pep and gets good mileage. A clean air filter, and an empty trunk will improve your mileage!
My brother's big truck that he plows snow with in Maine gets 12 mpg (1/3 of what I get) on a great day. If I'd been driving his truck yesterday (350 miles) it would have cost me around $150!!! Yikes!

And in 1963 I was the owner/operator of an ESSO Service Station the price for regular $0.24.9 and ethyl was $0.29.9 makes me want to cry.

Come down to where live I pay 3.81 per Gal :)

Cheer up. If we take our dollars as par, and they're within a cent of that, and I convert our gallons to yours, one of your gallons of regular here is $5.00 today. At it's peak, it was $5.45. The annoying thing is that the gas you're buying there could have easily been refined from Canadian crude. Just saw the comment above. In '63 here, gas was 38.1 an imperial gallon, beer was $2.52 a dozen, and the price NEVER changed. Things, unfortunately, do. At least beer's not 14.2 times what it was then.

Well Jon ;) Our gas prices fell today to 4.05 and 9/10ths for regular gas, our highest here was 4.40 for reg. gas!
11 years ago I worked, part-time, at a gas station and paid .92 cents a gallon.... 2 years later gas was up to $1.20 and people were getting upset..... Nuff said? :)

Ours are even lower at 3.76.

The station I passed on my way home was $4.11 a gallon, down 2 cents from Saturday. I think we should stop paying the gas bill for all our Politions and let them start forking out $4+ a gallon. We came back from Arizona last week and the highest gas was $4.54 around the Grand Canyon, because gas stations are few and far between there.

I say, makes it more desirable to get out and walk, or kayak, or bike.
I'd like to see the gas prices keep rising!

BTW, I just did the math and Heineken is about $15/gallon. Good thing my car doesn't run on beer.

We are still up at $3.99 a gallon. No trips to the Everglades for me. I now work 23 miles from home and my PT makes about 20/mpg so the gas is used for that. The zoo is loads closer so that's were I end up. The tigers know me by sight.
I should be driving a Prius in a few months....if I don't go bankrupt buying gas.

Jon, we went to the Chesapeake Folk Festival at the St. Michaels Maritime Museum on Saturday. East of the Bay Bridge, we saw 3.75 at station after station. Today, we paid 3.73 just North of Annapolis. I think they're playing with us.

It is starting to creep down; hopefully will continue. Differences in price between rural, suburban and city are partly due to local taxes (city and county). There are some web sites around that track local prices, here in the Chicago area there is a map of prices showing how within the city limits the prices are always the highest, 1/2 mile away they are lower.

I paid $3.79 here today woo hoo,man never that I'd say that at that price.:)

Ha.
We Europeans still laugh at your prices (probably because we're jealous :-)
If I'd drive the same distance you did over here in Holland in a small size car, I'd have to pay at least $120 on gas...

B.T.W. Heineken is $9 a gallon here, so at least we get someting cheaper :-)

From the Tulsa World news website:

Note the last paragraph I copied: a 10 cent increase for gas and diesel.
"Despite calls from the presidential campaign trail for a Memorial Day-to-Labor Day tax freeze, lawmakers quickly concluded — with a prod from the construction industry — that having $9 billion less to spend on highways could create a pre-election specter of thousands of lost jobs.
Now, lawmakers quietly are talking about raising fuel taxes by a dime from the current 18.4 cents a gallon on gasoline and 24.3 cents on diesel fuel. "

We're paying $3.88 now, I hope it keeps going down. I really don't think it matters just how high gas gets in the end, We Americans love our cars.

And that is why I joined a van pool for my 70 mile round trip to work!
-I can sleep on the way to and from work
-I'm helping conserve the environment
-I don't have to deal with the Beltway
-My wife says I'm much happier when I get home from work!
